SEI and ESL

Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) and English as a Second Language (ESL)

Young Achievers provides a Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Program in grades K2 to 4th.  Taught by highly qualified teachers, SEI at Young Achievers is designed to make instruction in grade-level academic content areas more accessible to Spanish-speaking English Language Learners (ELL’s) students, who have English Language Development (ELD) Levels 1 to 3. The language of instruction is English, with Spanish language clarification provided when needed.

Students also receive additional English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction from two ESL Teachers on staff. ESL instruction at YA is designed to complement and enhance the SEI Program curriculum.  Both SEI and ESL instruction at Young Achievers focuses on helping students acquire English in the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing; while providing students with direct instruction in academic language based on the WIDA Standards.
