Special Education/Inclusion

Inclusion Programming

Young Achievers is a full inclusion school servicing students in grades K0-8.  We are committed to educating every student in the "least restrictive" environment -- meaning students with disabilities receive their education, to the maximum extent appropriate, with non-disabled (or "typical") peers.

Inclusive education is an opportunity for schools to meet the needs of all students through educating learners with disabilities alongside their non‐disabled peers. It is based on a belief that all children can learn together in the same schools and classrooms with appropriate supports. We believe in the BPS mission to allow each student to develop to their individual potential with the maximum amount of inclusive opportunities.

Our inclusion classrooms are are staffed by a dual-certified teacher, a paraprofessional, and a shared Learning Specialist.

Related Services

We provide "related services" support to students with disabilities to help them succeed and access the curriculum. These supports include Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy.  Staff works with students in a small group structured setting or in the student's classroom.

Intensive Supportive Program

Our Intensive Supportive Program (ISP) services students in grades 6-8 with an emotional disability. Staff works with students in a small group setting. Students are also given the opportunity for inclusion into a general education classroom with the support of teachers and paraprofessionals. The goal is to fully include students into classes with their peers by the eighth grade.
