Update March 15, 2020

Greetings YA Community,

This is Principal Martin… I am confident you are well aware at this point that Mayor Walsh announced that schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, March 17th until April 27th.

Based on the decision to close schools, we are striving to ensure that we provide what is needed each day for our students. I’d like to explain what is happening this week to ensure that students have access to learning while at home.

This week’s schedule is as follows:

Monday, March 16th, students and staff, report to school.  Attendance is taken. Students are excused if a parent or guardian writes a note or email citing Coronavirus.  This day will serve as a transition day for students and staff to gather necessary belongings to begin their web-based and paper-based learning from home and close out with our school community.

Monday will serve as a transition day for students to gather necessary belongings to begin their web-based and paper-based learning from home. The YA Team is working closely with the central office Academic Division to ensure that learning continues at home during this time.

Students in K-2nd grade will receive paper-based assignments, as well as guidance from teachers about supplemental websites for further online learning.  Students in grades 3-8 will receive a Chromebook if needed to complete both paper-based and web-based assignments posted on their Google classroom. In preparation for work and Chromebook distributions, we ask that families arrive after 12noon to ensure materials are available and the process is efficient.

Tuesday, March 17 there are no classes, all of BPS school will have a deep cleaning.

For students not in attendance on Monday, their families will be able to come in on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday during school hours to pick up their child’s assigned Chromebook or any folders of work provided by their teachers.

Please continue to look out for more communication that will explain these resources in detail such as support for families including breakfast and lunch options in the days ahead. All before and after school programming- YMCA, Harlem Lacrosse, and basketball practices are canceled. The school day tomorrow is 8:30- 4p.m.  please plan accordingly for our scholar’s dismissal plan.

Finally, we want to be a resource for you and we look forward to connecting with you over the next few days in person or via email.  We want to work to continue to find ways to maintain the closeness of our community, even as we work remotely from our respective homes.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher directly or the YA Leadership team.

Thank you for supporting your children’s learning as we navigate this challenge as a community.  As always, we are grateful for your continued support and collaboration to Young Achievers School. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the school at 617-635-6804.

Take care of yourself and stay safe!
