Mr. L's Tips on Working with Tables

Tables are a very important layout and design method for web designers and developers. You can use tables to position graphics and text on web pages in a way that allows them to be placed on the middle or right side for example.

  1. To Create a table, drag the icon of the table on your tools bar to the location on your web page where you want the table.

To show your tools bar, Go to View, and click either Show Panels or Hide Panels or click the shortcut key, F4 to switch back and forth.

  2. Choose the number of row and columns that you want. Please put in two columns and at least 6 rows. For the What I Am Reading assignment, you can add rows later but you should have at least 6 books or poems listed (one row for each book or poem). I would also suggest putting in 5 for the cell padding. This will give you a little margin within each cell. Click on the down arrow and change the width to pixels and make it 400 pixels wide.

  3. You will see a table something like the table below.

    Mr. Lamothe's Reading List

    Charlotte's Web
    by E. B. White
"Charlotte's Web" by E. B. White was always one of my favorite books, even as an adult. One of the things that most impressed me about the story was how well the author depicts Charlotte as the epitomy of what a true friend is. In the book Charlotte stands completely behind Wibur and does all she can to both console Wilbur, build Wilbur's confidence, and ultimately save his life.
    Lord of the Rings
    by JRR Tolkein
I read The Hobbit and all three books of the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was in high school. The imaginary world that Tolkein creates in Middle Earth facinated me.
    Dune
    by Frank Herbert
I read Dune when I was out of college. Frank Herbert's world on Arakis, the desert planet is a story with many intricacies that captured my interest. I especially liked his use of the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and honor.

  4. Type the title of the poem or book and author in the left hand column and type your summary and description in the right hand column.
