Instructions for Creating Directories, Saving Files, Copying Files and More

  1. Go to your desktop by clicking on the little icon at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Double Click on My Computer.

  3. Click on View, Explorer Bar, the Folders.


  4. Hit the Plus Sign on the D drive.


  5. Hit the plus sign on your class directory, either web1, web2, tech1, or tech2.


  6. Highlight the directory where you want to create a sub directory under. For example, if you wanted to create a directory for yourself under the web1 class directory and your name were Alicia Jones, you would highlight web1 directory,

    then you would go to the top of the window and click on File, New, Folder, then type the name for the directory. The rule for naming your directory is: all lower case letters, first letter of your first name, and then your last name. Thus, if your name were Alicia Jones, your directory would be called ajones.


  7. Next you need to creat an images directory under your directory. Highlight your directory then follow instructions in step 6 to create your images directory.


  8. Next, to Copy a File from your directory to the A drive floppy disk, highlight your directory as shown in the above picture. Then in the right hand window you will see the list of files. In this case, you will need to copy your index.html file onto the A Drive. Highlight the index.html file.


  9. Right click on the index.html file and hold the button down, drag it onto the A drive in the left window, and release the mouse . A box will pop up, click on copy. The file will then be copied onto the floppy disk in the A drive. If you are backing up the file and have already copy it there once, another window will pop up and ask if you want to replace the file. Click Yes and the file will be copied.
