FIRST DAY OF SECOND SEMESTER:
Today is the first day of the second semester. It is a chance to start fresh on your assignments for your Technology class. YOU are responsible for accomplishing a substantial amount of work in Technology. You are also responsible for working on the assignments given and staying on task during class. The class time is not to be used for other non assigned activities. You are also responsible for working on your assignments when you are not in technology class if you need to.
The grade that you received for the first semester is based on the work that you did for the first semester and the time and effort that you put into it both during class and outside of class. The grade that you received was given to you by you.
Again I remind you that today begins a new semester. Technology and school work in general requires hard work to be sucessful. If you work hard and concentrate on doing the work, the results will show. When you get to high school you will be expected to work hard and complete the assignments. The work that you do in high school will determine your future regarding college and a future career. It is important now to establish you work habits now.

OBJECTIVE: Your objective this week is to create a reading page and add content to the page.
You will need to create a new page that will be your reading page. The purpose of the page is to list on your web site the books, poems, and other works that you are reading and to provide a short description of the book and your reaction to it.
- You will need to create a new page that will be your reading page. To do that, open Macromedia Dreamweaver and type the title at the top of a new page. The title should be something like What I Am Reading or My Reading List NOTE: When you open Dreamweaver it automatically creates a new blank page. If you don't see a blank web page, go to File at the top, then click on New.
- Once you have typed the title, SAVE THE FILE IN YOUR NAMED DIRECTORY ON YOUR "H" DRIVE RIGHT AWAY BEFORE YOU DO ANY MORE WORK ON IT. Please remember the File Naming Rules, all lower case letters and no spaces.
- Begin listing the books, poems, and other things that you have read. We will be making a link to the Reading page from your home web page.
- After you make the list of books that you are reading, write a paragraph about each book. The paragraph should include a description of what it was about, your reaction to the book, and information about the book that other people might be interested in.
- When you finish writing a paragraph about each book, please create a link to the web file from your index.html page. If you need help on how to make a link, please raise your hand for help or ask a classmate for help.
- ADVANCED TASK: If you want to try an advanced web development task, I would suggest adding a TABLE to you web page and arranging your information about your Readings using a table. To add a table to your web page, you will need to click on the web link below and follow the directions on that page.
Mr. L's Tips on Working with Tables

- ADVANCED TASK: Once you have finished that, talk with Mr. Lamothe about scanning in covers of books so that all students will have pictures of the covers of the books to place next to the description.

- ADVANCED TASK: Add Thumbnails to your Readings Page for each book. See the instructions for Creating Thumbnails.

Grade 8 YA Techcity
OBJECTIVE: Your objective this week is to create web page files from the work that you have done in class.
1. Create a web page file for your Memoir. To do that, open Macromedia Dreamweaver and type the title of your Memoir at the top of a new page. NOTE: When you open Dreamweaver it automatically creates a new blank page. If you don't see a blank web page, go to File at the top, then click on New.
2. Once you have typed the title, save the file in your named directory, for example rlamothe. Please remember the file naming rules, all lower case letters and no spaces.
3. Once you have the file saved, begin typing in your Memoir that you have already written. If you have a Microsoft Word file of your Memoir, please see Mr. Lamothe or Mr. Burd about copying that file to your doc directory. We will be making a link to the Memoir from your home web page that has the list of your assignments.
4. When you finish typing your Memoir, please create a link to the file from your index.html page which has your list of assignments. If you need help on how to make a link, please raise your hand for help or ask a classmate for help.
5. When you finish that, choose another assignment to create a web page from.
